FoundingBase program was established from the awareness that “we need the system of people not only drifting from country to city but also from city to country”.

Today we are creating each local place a “FoundingBase where people can create new values to make innovations happen”. We are working to form a system of this FoundingBase becoming a place where people gather constantly, where the ideas come to life and those ideas will collaborate and develop with other efforts.

System of people constantly drifting from city to local area

FoundingBase is creating “a system of people constantly drifting from city to country”. Since the regional revitalization gathered attention the number of people moving to the country increased but our goal is to establish this confluence. We will establish the system of people migrating to local places taking the time needed to so that as a result there will be no FoundingBase taking part in that confluence of younger generation gathering at the local places. From 2018 we will also be starting to develop a system of people gathering from outside Japan.

      ❶ Coordination with local governments

We will communicate with administration to understand the vision they have for community development, then explain policies, roles, and strength FoundingBase has in order to share the goal, to work together to make the vision a reality.

    • Shigoto Kaigi

      ❷ Holding exchange meetings

Organizing big and small events, lecture talks, and through a year creating a opportunity to communicate with younger generations.

Forming a system that ideas turn into a reality

FoundingBase calls the youth who joined the project in local place through our program keyman. Keyman engages in various activities in each local place but in addition to what is expected from administration we value the activities created from keyman’s ideas, and support making these happen by taking 4 steps as below.

First step we take is discussing the issue with local people and share each other’s thoughts to come up with how to solve the issue. This is important in a way of seeking what action would be significant for that region by continuously communicating with local people.

We suggest to start from small scale when turning ideas to reality. This is because by taking action you get the answers for questions such as “is this project worth the action?” or “could this be made persistent?” which helps you get the idea of what is possible and what is not.

Once we feel the certain response we expand the project aiming to make it something that can continuously make profit. If needed FoundingBase will introduce expert in the field or a company to the keyman.

Even if the project kicks off as something aiming to make profit if the activity is recognized as something valuable there must be a way to monetize it. We will not stop just forming the enterprise but challenge to propel it. Our goal is to take root in the city/town as something that contributes to that local area, be recognized by the local people and be loved.

    • Holding the Marche Regularly

❶ Marugoto Tsuwano Marche (Tsuwano, Shimane)

Morning market that is started in 2013. The main concept is “to appeal Tsuwano’s character” and they sell not only fresh vegetables, but try to build a community where local information is gathered and delivered.

    • Pottering Tour

      ❷ Kibi Cycle(Kibi-chuo, Okayama)

Kibi cycle has started in 2017. People use electric-supported bicycle and ride around the town. We call it pottering as aiming people to look around the town freely, and want people to feel Kibi’s nature, culture, and sometimes talk to local people.

    • Online Training

      ❶ Training for keyman

We regularly offer trainings for keyman before and after entering local places through online and offline. Not only do we help them improve their skills for activities but also provide trainings to think about future of Japan and what actions we must take.

    • Meetings with managers

      ❷ Meetings (Regularly with manager/mentor)

We arrange meetings regularly with keyman. There will be both manager and mentor for each keyman. The conversation could be about propelling enterprise keyman is working on or about issue from his/her daily life, think of the solution and take action if needed.

    • Shooting by Professional Camera Crew

3 collaborate

Forming a system that creates new value through collaboration

By collaborating businesses of different industries by keyman who are in same town or businesses that share the same theme but in the different area we will create new values. For example if the distribution business and education business can cooperate it could lead to new ideas of selling agricultural products or educational program with new perspective. We are aiming to create system that can produce new values as above.

We think producing new value may create innovation through collaboration in a different field in one town.

We discuss with members who are working in different area. It leads to solve problems rapidly with consulting other cases.

Founding Education

FoundingBase has been consulting with issues related to education and professionally worked on projects such as cram school by public management and renovating high schools in local areas. When you think of the future of local areas it is children that leads its future and it is fair to say that their education is what bears the future of the areas. We live in the era of not being able to imagine how the society will be in 10 years and therefore we believe that it is crucial to offer education that enables children to think for themselves and act on it. We are thinking of multiple contents to make this happen and taking actions in local places to try out our ideas.

Creating Regional Industry

Out of multiple regional issues we focus on is creating a new regional industry with cooperation of administration. We are currently working on “Nagasakibana beach resort” which is a artificial beach in Bungotakada-shi Oita prefecture.
